Bus Troubles

EOUMB Alumni Band Story by Adnett Tomlinson

Delaware State University vs Hampton University

Thursday: 9/07/17

This was the last practice day before heading to Delaware State Univesity vs. Hampton University football game, featuring both bands battling songs through out the game, hyping their fans, and performing for halftime on Friday September 8th, 2017.

The former EOUMB members were on their grind as they prepared for the best moment of a football game, halftime.

Here are Rael Cherry, Deon Thompson, and Natalie Tomlinson, all baritone players, ready for 6:00 pm band practice on 9/07/17.

Jorge Vega is slight jogging to his position for the opening of the show, as he thinks about his cues to go from one place to another at 6:00 PM practice on 9/07/17.

Desmond Drake is warming up and looking through his music as he commits it to memory.

Report time on Friday (9/08/17) was set for 12:00 PM and the buses were on the road by 1:30 PM. But it wasn't until 4:30 PM when we were able to begin loading the Band bus and still had to wait for the 3rd and final bus to arrive. Finally, by 5:38 PM, everyone was on the buses and we began the ride to Hampton University. We arrived at Hampton at 9:33 PM, just in time for the game to be all over. Score: 28 Hampton, 15 Delaware State. At least we scored more points than the last time.

The Approaching Storm Band had no time for warming up before performing for the post game. Hampton's band and the small remaining audience had the courtesy to stay as we performed. After the performance, we took a sandwich break and began to load the buses again. However, just as we thought our night couldn't get any worse, we had to wait an extra 44 minutes on the Hampton University Campus because the bus drivers were nowhere to be found. Then, to add insult to injury, not long into the drive back to Delaware, the toll bar did not want to lift up to let us through. But after a couple minutes of waiting, we finally got the green light to continue.

It was 3:11 AM when we arrived back on the Delaware State University campus. Exhausted by the long day of sitting and waiting just to perform for 10 minutes, the band members headed back to their dorms and homes.
