The Wiz Kids, Inc. of East
Merges with the EOUMB.
First Performance Together at Allentown, PA
This Saturday morning is special.
The EOUMB has merged with The East Orange Wiz Kids, Inc.
and the two organizations will be performing together in
Allentown, PA today. This means the EOUMB now has 501 (C) (3) tax exempt status and will be able to accept donations of instruments and
money while offering donors the ability to list their donations
as state and federal charitable tax exemptions. Frederick Goode
has been Director of The Wiz Kids, Inc. for many years. While he
was Band Director of the EOUMB when it was affiliated with the
East Orange School District, there was no need to claim tax
exempt status, but now that they have separated, this merger made
sense and by vote of all the trustees, he will continue as
Director of both branches under the Wiz Kids, Inc.
One advantage of the merger can
be seen as the Band Members wait for the bus and before loading
their instruments - the Wiz Kids in the group provide
entertainment. In the above photo, Desmond Drake, with his back
to the camera in the center, is demonstrating his juggling skills
to the others.
Here's the view from the front.
Desmond was shown some new juggling tricks by his Wiz Kid
teachers and so he will have things to work on during the ride to
and from Allentown and perhaps some new skills to show when he
returns to East Orange. Young Kassidie Peah who is in the
foreground left watching Desmond was given some new flute music
to learn to sight read while on the trip, so for both groups,
learning new skills is a constant process.
By 11:00 AM they arrive in
Allentown, disembark, and do some stretching exercises after the
long bus ride.

drummer. That is Isaiah Tomlinson acting as our mascot.
Mr Good writes:
"Another new drummer is Isaac Agyapong. We left Isaac's drum
behind; he didn't come by headquarters this morning to pick up
his own equipment. His fault ... so we improvised a tenor drum
for him made from a water jug. It makes a huge difference with
the sound. Excellent alternative!"

The Wiz Kids will be
painting faces, clowning, juggling, and stilt walking for today
as they figure out their new roles.
L-R: Kassadie, Jazmine,
Miriah, and Lea start by having their own faces painted to
encourage other children to join in the fun. Mr. Goode blew up
balloons and twisted them into balloon animals, a skill which
needs to be learned by our new Wiz Kid Band Members.
Everyone at the event was
invited to join in the group photo with the EOUMB/Wiz Kids.
