The Legion of Boom Marching Band
is made up of students from Newark's Science Park High School and
Barringer High School. This past August, they held a Band Camp
Program to get their band in shape for the Fall season. They were
assisted by Alumni from the East Orange Unified Marching Band
(EOUMB), Shakquel Peters, Adam Engers and Jarrod Richardson, who
devoted time and energy this summer to pass on their years of
Band experience and knowledge of music, marching and dancing.
The Legion of Boom starts their
morning with stretching, and as time goes on it gets more intense
with PT (physical training) and finally running.
After PT, the band gathers in the
Barringer High School band room to go over the agenda for the
day. After tuning the instruments, warming up, and playing some
practice music, they are sent to sectional rehearsals. Then they
break for lunch at 12:00 noon.
After a half a day at Barringer
High School, buses arrived at around 12:30 PM to transport the
band members from the high school to Newark Stadium. While on the
field, they practice maneuvers such as Forward Marching, Mark
Time, and Back Marching.
Alumnus Jarrod Richardson, front and center, is training a new dance group for
the Legion of Boom Marching Band. Jarrod was formerly a member of
the 2012 EOUMB Honor Guard and attended Cicely Tyson High School.
